Put the Brakes on the Shake!

Alot of us love our salt, it does enhance the taste of our food, but of course what tastes great isn’t always so great for our health, and salt is no exception. We know that too much salt can raise blood pressure which in turn can bring on a host of other health problems including heart disease — the number one killer in the U.S., as well as stroke, and kidney disease. In addition, a recent study by South Korean researchers found that a salty diet can increase the risk of stomach cancer by as much as 10 percent. That’s enough to think again before that extra shake.
Reducing daily salt intake to about a teaspoon a day could cut the yearly number of new cases of heart disease by at least 60-thousand, the incidence of stroke would also be reduced.
And don’t forget — processed foods are laden with sodium as is most restaurant food. The next time you eat out, ask for no salt and then if you need to, add a little yourself.
