Walking and Wellness

I’m about to hit the pavement, get my walking in for the day. While I love what it does to clear my head, I’m also loving what it’s doing for my calf muscles, not to mention my flexibility and endurance. Oh…and my bones…bone density peaks in our early thirties, then declines sharply after menopause, so I’m doing everything possible to ensure that my bones will never be brittle.

Walking and physical activity also increases muscle mass and aids in kick-starting your metabolism, helping to keep weight gain under control. Something we really have to watch as we get older, to help prevent that bulge around the middle which can increase our risk of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and numerous other ailments.

Of course you need energy to be active, so go for the gusto! Grab things like whole-grains, (complex carbs) nuts and seeds, fruits and vegetables, and steer clear of refined carbs, those empty calories that put a strain on your body’s systems and sap your energy.

Follow these simple steps and enjoy a life filled with vim and vigor!
