What You Should Know About Celiac Disease

Celiac disease is similar to diabetes in that many people have it and don’t know it. If you do have it, that means your system cannot tolerate gluten, if you continue to eat foods with gluten, such as oats, wheat, rye, and barley it will damage your small intestine. Cutting gluten out of your diet will usually repair the damage in a matter of a few months. The key is to read food labels carefully, don’t eat something if you’re not sure. Also remember gluten is in many foods that you wouldn’t ever suspect, such as salad dressings, sauces, herbal tea, beer, and even communion wafers. Check with your doctor for more information and visit www.celiac.org.
